Encompass Digital Media pulled fragmented global workflows together into a centralised cloud-based media processing operation employing Interra BATON automated QC tools.

As media organisations manage rapidly expanding volumes of content and narrowing delivery windows, they create a demand for scalable, resilient, borderless workflows. In response, Encompass Digital Media has developed Altitude Flow, a cloud-native media processing platform designed to pull fragmented global workflows together into a centralised, high-performance operation.

Altitude Flow has required a digital transformation of Encompass Digital Media’s global operations. For the quality control component, Encompass integrated Interra Systems’ BATON automated file-based QC tools into the platform architecture.

This step has involved migrating complex, critical QC processes from traditional on-premises hardware to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Using a phased deployment approach, with parallel on-prem and cloud operations, has allowed ongoing services to remain uninterrupted while workflows are progressively transitioned.

"The industry is seeing a major shift where enterprise-scale workflows are no longer constrained by geographic boundaries," said Mark Samoulian, global vice president, media systems engineering at Encompass Digital Media. "By migrating BATON into our Altitude Flow platform, we have demonstrated that essential, complex QC processes can be transitioned to the cloud without a 'rip and replace' approach. This strategic migration ensures our workflows remain flexible and scalable to stay ahead of evolving industry demands."

Executive vice president of global sales and business development at Interra Systems Ashish Basu said, "Altitude Flow becomes a practical and replicable blueprint for media companies seeking to transition from fixed, on-prem workflows to flexible, cloud-enabled operations. The successful migration of BATON proves that established workflow logic can be preserved while gaining the efficiency and cost benefits of the cloud, and we are thrilled to partner with Encompass on this influential project."

Meanwhile, the integration of BATON within Altitude Flow has delivered significant operational advantages, one of which is the ability to dynamically scale QC capacity to handle high-volume and time-sensitive VOD workloads. Also, BATON’s automated QC functions produce intelligence that is centralised and available as essential input to the control layer, where results directly influence downstream workflow decisions.

So far, early outcomes include increased throughput, shorter turnaround times, and less reliance on manual human interaction. Combined with standardized validation processes, content quality can be maintained across all geographic regions and delivery pipelines.

At the 2026 NAB Show, Interra Systems showed the latest version of its BATON platform, along with its entire suite of QC, monitoring and analysis solutions including ORION for real-time monitoring and VEGA Media Analyzer for deep technical analysis and debugging. www.interrasystems.com
