New laptops powered by the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors are now available from OEM partners across Australia. This new generation of processors, first shown at CES 2026 in January, is built for performance, AI application support, graphics and mobility, and will give manufacturers’ new lines of AI-powered PCs the energy efficiency needed for upcoming intelligent computing applications and features.

Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Processors, formerly code-named Panther Lake, are engineered with new P-core, E-core and LP E-core mobile architecture that designs all cores into a single processor. The Performance-cores (P-cores) support responsiveness, Efficient-cores (E-cores) deliver multi-thread and parallel performance, and Low Power Efficient-cores (LP E-cores) keep everyday operations running.

AI is able to process massive amounts of data and complete complex tasks rapidly with minimal intervention. But without AI-specialised hardware, this heavy data processing slows PCs down and consumes extra battery power. Relying on cloud-based AI-services is one solution, but that option may also slow performance, and involves data transmission costs and potential security risks.

With an AI-specialised PC, however, AI can run efficiently, directly on the device, owing to an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) that operates alongside the standard CPU and GPU built into most PCs. When these three computing engines work together correctly, tasks will run on the right engine at the right time, as follows.

The CPU handles general-purpose tasks and responds quickly to sudden, extreme workloads. The GPU is for high throughput and running large tasks that need parallel throughput, like image rendering. The NPU, on the other hand, focusses on efficiency to maintain sustained, heavy-use AI tasks at lower power. Meanwhile, being able to process data with AI directly on the PC, means performance is faster and content can be kept on the device.

Intel Arc GPU

Intel Core Ultra Series 3 laptops can also be purchased with an Intel Arc GPU installed, as long as they have been built with the minimum processor power required for Arc. Arc GPUs include important features of Intel’s Xe architecture – Intel XeSS 3 (Xe Super Sampling) combines XeSS-SR Super Resolution to increase performance with XeSS-MFG Multi Frame Generation, which performs AI-based frame interpolation. + (Xe Low Latency) is included to process the per-frame timing information used to calculate the precise CPU delay required and prevent latency.

Enabling all these technologies together effectively upscales images through AI deep learning and results in increased framerates with high image quality.

The new processor series serves diverse system types and uses due to its long battery life, power-efficiency and performance. More than 200 laptop designs globally will feature Intel Core Ultra Series 3 across demanding consumer, gaming and commercial systems. Australian users can also expect a wide range of devices – from extremely thin, light, portable productivity laptops to high-performance content creation and gaming systems – to roll out during 2026.  www.intel.com
